In this paper we read a novel Choe in hun's “Square” (1960; 1961) as the Korean's bildunsroman. Bildunsroman is an experimental novel on the potential of youth through the world of the novel's problematic protagonist initiated to. “Square” is a bildungsroman that implemented Bildung as the potential virtues of modern civil society and its frustration. “Square” is a literary achievements that 4.19 civil revolution produced, it experiments project of Korean-style's modernity with imaginative. Lee Myong Jun, a protagonist of “Square” criticized both South Korean society that only have closet but does not square and a North Korea that is the death of square. But fierce bildung's will of Lee Myong Jun failed trying to against the world in the face of confrontation. Nevertheless, the failure of “Square” is a meaningful failure. “Square” is a critical fiction or fictional critics that criticize reality have frustrated implementation of the ideal of the youth.
