...Democratic Party(LDP) agreed with the US’s response to the Panmunjom Axe incident. However, other parties in the Japanese Diet were very concerned about the risk of Japan being involved in the Korean Peninsula contingency. This study emphasizes that the ROK, the US, and Japan did not all have cooperative perspectives on the Panmunjom Axe Incident, one of the Korean Peninsula contingencies.
[학술논문] The KAL 858 Incident in 1987 and the Stances of the ROK, the US, and Japan
...incident occurred, the ROK, the US, and Japan in November 1987 cooperated to condemn the DPRK and impose sanctions. However, after the inauguration of the Roh Tae-woo administration, the ROK, the US, and Japan were less willing to consider military retaliation or stronger sanctions, even as they condemned the DPRK. This study suggests that ROK-US-Japan cooperated during the 1987 Korea contingency.
