In recent years, North Korea has achieved robust developments in its nuclear strike capabilities.
Today, the threats posed by the Korean People’s Army (KPA) are far greater than those of the past, warranting improvements in the defense readiness of the United States (US), Japan, and the Republic of Korea (ROK). This paper discusses the key threats North Korea poses to Japan’s security, the measures Japan is taking to better prepare the Japan Self-Defense Force (JSDF), and the need for better coordination and cooperation between the US, Japan, and the ROK.
