본 연구는 북한의 두 개의 서로 다른 민족론에 대한 분석이다. 민족해방운동의 연장선에서 통일의 과정을 분단된 단일민족의 복원의 차원으로 규정해온 ‘조선민족론’과 남북 간의 힘의 균형에서의 열세와 사회주의 계급노선의 세계사적 실패 속에 촉발된 정당성의 위기를 수령, 당, 주체사상, 사회주의제도라는 네 가지 경계를 통해 돌파하려 했던 ‘김일성민족론’이 그것이다. 특히 본 연구는 김일성민족론이 갖는 통일론과의 긴장을 드러냄으로써 한반도의 평화 및 통일에 대한 신중하고 냉정한 정책적 접근이 필요함을 주장한다. 이를 위해 본 논문은 먼저 민족건설과 관련한 이론과 개념을 정리하는 동시에 북한의 민족론이 계급노선과 통일담론 등과 갖는 긴장들을 살펴본다. 이어 북한의 두 가지 ‘민족론’ 가운데 ‘민족통일론’과 ‘조선민족론’을 통합의 논리라는 틀 속에서, ‘우리민족제일주의’와 ‘김일성민족론’을 이와 상반된 배제의 논리라는 틀 속에서 각각 검토한다. 그리고 마지막으로 상기한 긴장이 갖는 함의를 간략히 제시한다.

This study analyzes two different nation-buildings in North Korea. One is the building of Choson Minjok which defines the process of unification as the restoration of a divided single nation, from the perspective of the national liberation movement. The other is the building of Kim Il-Sung Minjok. It was developed to overcome the crisis of legitimacy, caused by not only the inferiority in the power imbalance between two Koreas but also the global failure of socialism, through emphasizing on the four boundaries of Sureong, party, Juche ideology and socialist systems. In particular, the study argues that a prudent and cool-headed approach is necessary to bring peace and unification to the Korean Peninsula by revealing the conflict that the building of Kim Il-Sung Minjok generates with unification theory. In this context, this paper first outlines theories and concepts related to nation-building, while looking at the tensions North Korean nationalism has with class lines and unification discourse. Next, the theory of National Unification and Choson Minjok is examined as the logic of integration and the theory of Our Nation First and Kim Il-Sung Minjok is reviewed as the logic of exclusion. Finally, the implications of the tensions above are presented briefly.
