The Ministry of Education (MOE) reported that there were 385 North Korean refugee youth at high school level (NKRHS) in April 2013 in South Korea. Their experience in the South Korean high school setting could provide valuable input for preparing the educational field during and after reunification. Despite this, there has been little discussion about their learning experience. The main purpose of this study is to explore the perspectives of these North Korean refugee youth at high school level in South Korea (NKRHS), focusing on their English learning both before and after living in South Korea. 12 NKRHS and 7 teachers participated in face-to-face interviews and the results were analyzed by using NVivo 10. The findings of this study provide a new understanding of the NKRHS and their English language learning experience.
