This paper is a research on the contents and poems in ‘Korean’ textbooks of North Korea middle school, and desirable direction of poetry education for South-North coexistence. In 2012 Chief Kim Jong Un has advocated new educational reform policy that included expanding compulsory education and enhancing technical training and foreign language education. In one sense, we can read that they have the will to opening in this reformation, on the other hand, we can expect that North Korea would strengthen the dictatorship for the maintenance of its hereditary leadership. Korean textbooks of North Korea have three contents about poetry; recitation, genre, creative writing. And there are many poems by great poets in the North Korean literary history, most of the poems praise North Korea’s founder Kim Il Sung and his son Kim Jong Il and inculcate patriotism in the readers. Both the South and North should accept their differences and try to make cooperative structure for unification of Korea. In poetry education, North Korea should expand diversity of poems and South Korea strengthen activities for reading and writing poems. In addition, we should select works that widen the breadth of empathy between South and North by the principle of permission and exclusion.
