초록
This research compares the Beauty Industry Status and the hairdresser license systems of South and North Korea in order to bring attention and seek possible solutions for the discrepancies in the beauty industry that might cause disorder after reunification of the North and the South Korea. Therefore, the research is focused on the Hair Industry Status such as the Industrial scale and the costs of hair services. Second, the research contains the present condition of Hairdresser workforce such as data on social awareness, working conditions, and the wage of the North Korea Beauty industry. Third, It is investigated and analysed the Hairdresser qualification system such as the systems of current license, promotion, and educational institutions. The results were as follows: The North Korean salons were referred to as a convenience service facilities and were located near factories, accommodations, recreational parks, schools, and rest areas. The average size of the buildings that hosted the salons was approximately 30,979.7 m2. The average hairdressers’ working hours were prescribed by the law approximately 8 hours per day and 6 days a week in North Korea. Moreover, the qualifications of the North Korean hairdressers were highly fractionalized, ranging from 1st to 8th class, and was paid accordingly. Especially, the hair dressers that have made contributions to the country were also rewarded with a doctorate and much honor. As it is evident, we can see that the North Korean hairdresser license system was much more systemized than its South Korean counterpart. The hairdresser license test was divided into two parts, written and practical skills. The written part of the test was composed of free answer questions and the practical skills part of the test evaluated the hairdresser’s ability to complete the hairstyle selected by the government. Recently in South Korea, there has been many attempts of diversification including the NCS education curriculum and the systemization of the beauty licenses. Objective qualification systems must be put in place in order to propel the beauty industry in the positive direction. In addition, the research on North and South Korean beauty industries must be expanded and developed so that the exchange of advanced beauty technologies of South Korea is activated and the two disparate license systems are able to be reconciled after unification. The expanded research of the North Korean beauty industry will provide a pragmatic plan after unification and foster a mutual relationship between North and South Korea.
