Kim Hyun, one of the extraordinary literary critics of 1960s-80s in modern Korean intellectual history, has not been involved in the dichotomous discourse on the territorial division of South and North Korea. But he seems to be a rare pioneer intellectual to carve out an alternative idea from the current point of view. His little known writing "A reflection and travel essay of an intellectual on the territory division" and many kinds of sub-texts in this essay, remind us of the insensitivity to both the territorial division and the psychosomatic prohibition. His opinion based on culturally liberalistic beliefs was not only different from the 'discourse of territorial division era' but it also excavated a new idea far from nationalism and popular theory of unification of that period. Such an idea is needed again in that the problem of territorial division is displaced with that of freedom and deeply related to marginalization of social minorities in the area of region, gender, identity and human right.
