Purpose –The purpose of this study is to discuss ways to increase the influx of tourists by utilizing the elements of play and fun along with the existing security and peace paradigms of the Ganghwa Peace Observatory. Ganghwa Island is a place with the potential to increase the influx of tourists based on its abundant tourism resources. Design, data, and methodology – This study directly surveyed major domestic peace and security observation posts located in the border area of the DMZ together with tourism experts and tourism students to organize the characteristics of each. Result – The tour of major domestic peace observatories suggested the need for a paradigm shift from the existing focus on security and peace awareness, and derived a planning direction for expanding tourist interest and inflow through cultural tourism consumption. Conclusion – Gangwha Peace Observatory needs to increase the influx of tourists by expanding the tourist course that closely links the surrounding tourist resources, hosting various competition events where tourists can enjoy experiences and games within the observatory, recreating popular entertainment content such as women’s wrestling, and utilizing North Korean defector art troupes to create an atmosphere reminiscent of North Korea.
