This study provides a historical approach for interpreting the protestant church movement for the reunification of Korea from an ecumenical perspective. The new approach to this study is an historical examination of the theological characteristics of the protestant church movement for the reunification of Korea from an ecumenical standpoint. Thus, this paper does not follow social science, but a historical approach to the theological reflections on the reunification of Korea. The present study investigates the theme as follows: 1) The division of Korea into North Korea and South Korea 2) The history of the protestant church movement for the reunification of Korea 3) The ecumenical fellowship for the reunification of Korea (the corporate social responsibility): The international situation in Northeast Asia requires the continued vigilance of the ecumenical community and recommend that CCA (Christian Conference of Asia) and WCC (World Council of Churches) initiate appropriate actions and responses as necessary. Since the division of the Korean Peninsula determines the ideological conflicts, it represents the main obstacle to the common welfare of Korea and also exacerbates the inner church disputes. Therefore, the corporate social responsibility of the protestant churches for the reunification of Korea could be defined as a certain alternative for the visible unity of the Church in Korea through the mutual recognition and focus on a common social task to resolve this problem. Furthermore, the mutual recognition of the social commitment for the reunification of Korea will be an important impetus to the productive communication between ecumenism and evangelicalism.
