Throughout historical experience, democracies have rarely fought wars against each other. So democratization is regarded as a way to enhance security and peace. This kind of position is called "democratic peace proposition." A democratic structure refrains political leaders from waging war, so it is supposed to conclude that we may avoid wars and settle peace by striving to create more democratic political systems. From this point of view, some argue that North Korea should transform its authoritarian regime toward democracy to achieve peace in the Korean Peninsula. While democracy is a desirable goal, there is always a possibility of, and vulnerability to war in the contemporary world. This research shows the merits and problems of democratic peace proposition in the Korean Peninsula from the standpoint of Christian ethicist Reinhold Niebuhr.
