This article investigates the progressive achivements of the research on the North Korea’s history and the South-North relations, published in <Critical Review of History> for 25 years and reveals about its meanings. In the late 1980s and early 1990s the North Korean studies, deviated from view of the Cold War, increased under the influence of “Awareness movement of North orea”. Accordingly, distorted knowledge about the North Korea’s history could be corrected considerably. In the 1990s with review of socialist system North Korean history studies were attracted to attention with the inflow of historical data and documents in the United States and Russia and etc. In addition, some researchers conducted a series of debates about North Korea research methodology. In the early and mid 2000s, North Korea research was developed and further intensified by North-South reconciliation. However, since the late 2000s the North Korean study lost its overall vitality and fell back into recession with the deterioration of South-North relations. <Critical Review of History> should continue to lead the North Korea’s history research and produce excellent research through systematic planning. It needs to meet the demands of the times on North Korean problems and North-South relations.
