My research project titled "Borderlines between Academy and Politics: IPR's and League of Nations Perspectives on Manchuria in the Twentieth Century" was selected by Harvard Yenching Institute(HYI) and I was stayed at HYI from Aug. 2011 to July. 2012. While I was staying at HYI I participated many activities related with East Asia, in this paper I will discribe what I learned from the USA especially activities related with education and research project. I attended two lectures, 'International Relations of East Asia' (by Alastair Iain Johnston) in fall 2011 and 'Government and Politics of Modern Japan' (by Amy L. Catalinac) in spring 2012. It reminds me how important of East Asia relations in peace through these lectures. I participated many seminars mostly held by Harvard Yenching Institute, Fairbank Center, Korea Institute and US-Japan Relations program of Weatherhead Center at Harvard University. Most of interested seminars were DPRK related such as perspectives of succession in North Korea and situations in North Korea. 'After 311 desaster in Japan','Boxilai incident' happened in China and Taiwan election seminars were fascinated also. 'Trio Seminar', discussion on state department daily briefing with 2 scholars from Korea and Japan, was the best experience I got from the Harvard. For research project, I visited library of Congress and National Archives and Records Administration(NARA), Library of Columbia University and British Columbia University and several libraries at Harvard University. I collelcted IPR(Institute of Pacific Relations) resources and top secret maps of Japanese Military on Manchuria from various libraries. Through these kind of academy activities I learned what kind of issues the USA focused on East Asia and how the China is important to the USA as a cooperative partner and a rival.
