This thesis evaluated and analyzed the relation between North Korea and China through China’s North Korea policy development in the perspective of continuation and change after the Cheonan sinking. As a result of the analysis, North Korea-China relation shows not only the continuation of the previous identical pattern before the Cheonan incident but also the change in the pattern. In other words, the Cheonan sinking operates as an impetus that enhances North Korea-China’s overall relation by converging strategic advantages of both China and North Korea. And should this kind of composition be sustained, consolidation of North Korea-China relation would be inevitable. Influences from the consolidation of North Korea-China relation are complex. That is. the reinforcement of the relation contributes to North Korea’s stability and survival, but poses limitation on the change of North Korea, such as its reform and opening up. Also, it would serve to maintain the motive of the six-party talk, it, however, implies the side of postponing the resolution of North Korea’s nuclear problem. Furthermore, the reinforced relation would benefit the relation between South Korea and North Korea while restraining the overall improvement. Thus, it is necessary for us to alleviate disadvantageous influences from the consolidation of North Korea and China relation and induce them to benefit us. In order for that to happen, we would need to concentrate on the positive aspects that the reinforcement of the two nations’ relation have on us. The reinforcement of North Korea-China relation, for instance, would set a turning point and provide opportunities for the resolution of North Korea’s nuclear issue, open-assistance to North Korea and the relaxation of Korean peninsula and South-North Korea relation by restarting Six-Party talks.
