When we meet an age of 'showing', an art borrowing is not an unfamiliar thing anymore. Hwang Seok-yeong visited North Korea in the latter of the 1980s. However, he had to be exiled and stayed in prison at that time. He couldn't write anything for more than 10 years. After this, he placed an artist and art in the front of the work『The old garden』that he published in 2000. After 1970 he, who was the representative of the public literature, emphasizes not the strong realism but the subjective world through the borrowing of art's factor. Through the art, he reflects the period's state and subject's consciousness effectively. In (the book titled) ‘Goya’, he shows the inside world of oppressed father's generation through borrowing of ‘Kthe Kollwitz’, emphasizing maternity's recover. Especially, the self portrait that leading character ‘Han Yoon-hui’ left is showing effectively what this novel is 'reflection's description' about passed period.
