초록
North Korea issue has never been more plaguing PRC-ROK relations than today as Cheonan warship was torpedoed off on March 26, 2010. Obviously, Seoul’s failure to solicit Beijing to act eminently for censuring DPRK’s reckless provocation, which caused 46 death toll of Korean navy and the biggest sailor disaster in the history of ROK, put Beijing in extremely difficult position. The rift in their bilateral relations has also never been bigger since the normalization of ROC-ROK ties in 1992. In fact, Seoul and Beijing have attempted to avoid rocking the boat of bilateral relationship by prudently coping with their perhaps contending thoughts and policy of the North. Unfortunately, the sunken warship of Cheonan immediately torn long-term wound and fretted their relationship in the manner very visible. Long held “dodging” strategy in the handling of N. Korea might end up with their Seoul’s mounting ire and Beijng’s conservative “even-handed policy”. Despite East Asia Summit meeting at Jeju Island on 29 May 2010 does not openly reveals their friction, but the mood on both the sides seems notably turning sour. For the sake of better off of both peoples, how to let both sides face up to their concerns has been a big expectation.
