[뉴스] [단독] 美전문가 "주한미군 감축, 4년 내 현실화 가능성"
피트 헤그세스 미국 국방장관의 수석 고문을 지낸 댄 콜드웰, 워싱턴 DC의 싱크탱크 ‘국방 우선순위(Defense Priorities)’의 제니퍼 캐버노 선임연구원은 9일 공동으로 발간한 보고서에서 현재 약 2만8500명 수준인 주한 미군 중 지상 전투 병력 대부분을 철수하고 약 1만명 정도만 남겨야 한다고 주장했다. 이는 트럼프 정부 들어 ‘주한미군의 전략적 유연성과 일부 철수·이전 배치’에 관한 내러티브가 부쩍 늘어난 미 조야(朝野) 분위기를 반영하고 있는데, 국방부가 해외 주둔 미군 태세를 들여다보고 있고 이르면 8월 새 국방전략(NDS) 발표를 앞두고 있는 시점이라 적지 않은 파장이 일고 있다.
