본 논문은 신종테러범죄, 이른바 뉴테러리즘에 대한 국내외 연구현황에 관하여 조사・소개하였다. 우선 신종테러리즘을 단순히 새로운 기술을 활용한 테러행위로 파악하기 보다는 전통적 테러리즘과 그 목적이나 방법, 효과 등이 구분되는 새로운 테러리즘, 특히 미국 9.11테러 이후 미국 학계에서 활발히 논의되고 있는 이른바 뉴테러리즘(new terrorism)으로 파악하고, 그 개념과 원인, 유형, 대처방안에 관한 국내외 연구현황을 차례로 소개하였다. 연구방법론과 관련하여서는 언어네트워크방법론을 활용하여 대(對)테러리즘에 관한 국내의 연구 경향을 분석한 몇몇 선행연구들을 소개하였는데, 이들 연구들은 국내 테러리즘 관련 그간 연구들의 관심이 주로 무엇이었는지를 핵심주제어, 예컨대, “테러”, “대테러”, “북한”, “미국”...
