한국전쟁이 동북아시아 지역 사회와 개인의 삶에 미친 영향을 조명한 Korean war in Asia: A Hidden History(2018)를 번역 소개하는 책이다. 호주국립대학 테사 모리스-스즈키 교수의 주도하에 집필된 이 책은 한국전쟁을 단순히 한반도 내전이나 미소 냉전의 대리전으로 보는 것이 아니라 동아시아 전역에 걸친 복합적이고 다층적인 국제전으로 해석한다. 한국전쟁이 아시아태평양전쟁, 중국 내전 등의 이 지역 다른 분쟁들과 어떻게 연결되는지 제시하고, 전쟁이 주변국에 미친 영향력을 다각도에서 조명한다. 지난 75년간 우리에게 ‘동족상잔의 비극’으로 각인되어 있던 6ㆍ25전쟁을 동아시아 지역의 관점에서 ‘잊혀진 전쟁’, ‘잘못 기억된 전쟁’으로 새롭게 정의하며, 한국전쟁의 이면에 감춰진 이야기들을 파헤친다...
