코리아반도의 미래를 상상하며, 한국과 조선이라는 민족국가를 탐구하다
본 도서의 저술 목적은 분단 이후 남북한, 즉 한국과 조선이 민족국가(nation-state) 형성 과정에서 민족과 국가의 정통성 확립을 위해 경쟁 혹은 투쟁해 온 과정을 분석하는 것이다. 분단 후 약 80년간 경쟁적으로 민족국가 건설을 추진한 결과, 남북의 정체성은 언어와 역사, 가치와 문화, 민족과 국민의식 등 모든 면에서 달라졌다. 향후 통일 과정과 이후의 국가 건설을 생각한다면, 코리아반도의 남과 북에 형성된 한국과 조선의 민족국가 정체성을 연구하는 것은 사회통합과 국민통합의 증진을 위해 준비해야 할 매우 중요하고도 긴요한 과제다.
