The purpose of this study to review the problems of word-spacing and suggest the alternative by comparing them with North Korean norms. Norms must be feasible and acceptable to the ordinary people. In other words;for a norm to be authoritative;ordinary people must follow and use it. However;compared to other orthography;it is hard to say that the word-spacing regulation are well followed. Because the current word-spacing regulation is based on the grammatical unit of ‘word’;it is complicated and difficult for ordinary people to understand;and it is also inconsistent because the word must be checked through a dictionary. Considering that the purpose of word-spacing is to convey accurate meaning and readability;word-spacing regulation need to be described concisely and consistently unlike other orthography. Based on this problem;this paper compares the word-spacing regulation between the South and North Korea;and then proposes to modify the word-spacing regulation in consideration of dependence. It is a norm that should also be made acceptable to ordinary people through education. However;unlike the current word-spacing norm;it is significant in terms of simplicity and coherence of norm.
