The DPRK makes Goryeo celadon, among other cultural heritages, as a symbol of its national excellence. North Korean researches have strongly emphasized that celadon is a unique culture of the Korean people beyond the Goryeo Dynasty. Studies of Goryeo celadon in the North Korean academia separated ‘Goryeo’ and ‘celadon’ firstly. North Korean academia claims that the celadon culture that existed from the Goguryeo(高句麗) and went through Balhae(渤海) was connected to Goryeo. In addition, they argue that although the celadon culture of the Korean people was a little affected by China, it is a unique cultural heritage based on the creativity of the Korean people to any distance. The North Korean regime established celadon as material culture that represents the wisdom and cultural competence of the Korean people. Therefore, the North Korean regime emphasizes that celadon is indeed our pride and is different from Chinese celadon. The North Korean regime strives to prove the proposition that although the DPRK is a small but a powerful nation by repeatedly emphasizing the excellence of the celadon.
