The purpose of this study is to investigate alternative schools attended by North Korean defectors and to compare the curriculum of North Korean defectors with those of North Korea. Unlike regular schools, alternative schools have their own curriculum because they operate independently without any curriculum. First, we examined what curriculums are for youths who have escaped from North Korea, and examined previous research on North Korean youths and alternative schools related to them. Next, we investigate the characteristics and actual conditions of North Korean defectors, examine the North Korean defectors who are study subjects, examine the education policies at the national ministries and foundations, and compare the education systems of South and North Korea. After examining the curriculum of North Korean elementary school, elementary junior high school, and advanced junior high school, we reviewed the curriculum of North Korean defectors in Korea. Based on the analysis of the curriculum of North and South Korea, we will discuss ways to improve the curriculum of alternative school for North Korean defectors.
