Purpose and necessity of the project
NK Consulting Inc. intends to deliver increased reach and understanding of North Korea issues in 2017-2018 through a newly launched free-to-access podcast and article / data consumption app.

NK News App
Currently many leading global media have built iOS and Android OS applications to enhance the deliverability and readability of their news and analysis to wider audiences. Both Yonhap and CNN are good examples of news apps which do well in offering a blend of instant push notification updates to users – to keep users informed of breaking news and alerts – as well as to facilitate the trouble-free reading of their articles in an enhanced user interface. While the NK News ‘Daily Update’ newsletter has provided a natural point to broadcast the team’s daily articles since the inception of the service, given the growth in competing email newsletters and inflexible nature of the NK News paywall, readership of this has dwindled over the past 24 months. As such, given increased user demand for consuming information via App form and the fact that such technology can facilitate more flexibility in regulating the provision of free guest access to articles, NK Consulting Inc wishes to build native iOS and Android OS applications that can do a combination of three things:
a) Facilitate NK News / NK Pro subscribers and non-subscribers access of our English language articles about North Korea.
b) Facilitate NK News / NK Pro subscribers and non-subscribers access and exploration of our North Korea unique datasets .
c) Provide a system for subscribers and non-subscribers to receive push alerts related to breaking North Korea news and tailored custom interest preferences.

NK News Podcast
Many leading news and magazine websites currently produce podcasts to expand the audience and footprint of their works. Furthermore, the international audience for podcasts has grown in significant size, with international listener numbers at an all time high. Yet no North Korea-focused podcast currently exists anywhere in the world. As such, NK Consulting Inc. wishes to begin producing a weekly NK News podcast to explore and deliver contemporary news, research, data and analysis, about North Korea. The podcast will be offered for free and intended to offer large audiences of English language audiences in and outside of the peninsula about developments related to North Korea and the inter-Korean relationship. Not only will this podcast have the advantage of being able to allow non-subscribers free partial access to NK News and NK Pro works, but it will also give existing readers another vector which to consumer the company’s intellectual output.
