본 논문은 김대중의 화해 사상을 그가 이분법을 극복하고 다양성 속의 통일의 변증법을 추구한 삶의 철학 속에서 조명하고자 했다. 그의 용서와 화해 사상은 인간과 사회의 본질에 대한 통찰과 그의 종교적 신념 그리고 역사에 대한 믿음에 기초하고 있다. 이는 그의 평화 상생의 삶의 자세 그리고 정치와 정책의 기본 바탕이 되고 있다. 이러한 관점에서 우리는 그의 자유와 민주주의에 대한 일관된 신념, 조국의 평화 통일, 세계시민사회, 자연과 인간의 조화를 추구하는 지구민주주의 사상을 체계적으로 이해할 수 있다. 여기에서 우리는 그의 화해 사상의 특수성과 보편성을 잘 인지할 수 있다. 그가 감옥에서 독서를 통해 깨닫게 된 당시 도래하고 있는 지식 정보 사회를 준비하기 위해 쏟아 부은 노력과 대통령이 되어서 실천한 정책들은 참으로 극적이고 감동적이다. 지식 정보 기술을 통해 이루어지는 초연결 사회는 용서와 화해, 평화와 상생의 사상과 실천 없이는 존립될 수 없다는 것을 그는 깨달았다. 이러한 관점에서 그는 제대로 된 준비와 정책적 실천을 하고자 했다. 이를 통해 그가 추구하는 가치들을 명실 공히 실천할 수 있다고 생각했다. 이렇게 전체적으로 일관된 그의 화해 사상을 보면서 우리는 그가 지탄을 받으면서도 실천한 현실 정치적 용서의 문제들도 파악할 필요가 있다.

The Particularity and Universality of Kim Dae-jung’s Reconciliation Thought in pursuit of the dialectic of unification in diversity and overcoming dichotomy.
This thesis attempted to highlight Kim Dae-jung’s thought of reconciliation based on the philosophy of his life in pursuit of the dialectic of unification in diversity and overcoming the dichotomy. His thought of forgiveness and reconciliation is based on his insight into the nature of man and society, his religious beliefs, and his beliefs in history. These became the basis of the peaceful attitudes in his life, politics and policies. From this point of view, we can systematically understand his consistent belief in freedom and democracy, peaceful reunification of his country, global civil society, and global democracy that pursues harmony between nature and humanity. Here we can well recognize the particularity and universality of his reconciliation thought. His efforts to prepare for the advent of the knowledge and information society, which he learned through books while in prison, and the policies he enforced as president are truly dramatic and moving. He realized that a hyper-connected society formed through the knowledge and information technology could not exist without the ideas and practices of forgiveness, reconciliation, peace and coexistence. Thus he strived to make adequate provision and policies, in which he saw that would allow him to practice the values he pursued. Looking at his overall consistent thought of reconciliation, there is a need to grasp the problems of political forgiveness that he practiced despite being blamed.
