...정부기록보관문서나 신문 기사 등의 자료들을 체크해서 부족한 부분을 보완했지만 골격은 당시 저자가 현장에서의 일을 기록해둔 개인 노트이기 때문이다. 청와대에 있던 2년 동안 매일 매일 개인적 일정과 공식 활동을 세심히 기록한 제법 방대한 분량이다. 그 기록 중 눈에 띄던 부분은 1993년 11월 한미 단독 정상 회담과 다음해 6월 카터( Carter) 전 대통령이 북한 방문을 전후해서 두 차례 김영삼 대통령과 청와대에서 나눈 대화 기록들이다. 한미 단독 정상회담에는 대통령을 제외하면 저자가 유일한 공식 배석자였기 때문에 이 내용은 그 어떤 자료에서도 찾아볼 수 없다. 특히 단독회담이 끝난 후 한미 양측의 안보보좌관이 나눈 대화는 필자의 노트가 유일한 기록이다. 카터 대통령과의 대화도 극소수 인원만...
