북한은 유엔 안보리 결의안을 무시하고 핵탄두와 탄도미사일 개발에 주력해 왔다. 그러나 시험사격을 통해 개발 중인 북한 탄도미사일 특성을 분석할 수 있는 추력 등에 관한 필수적인 정보는 수집이 제한되기 때문에 북한이 배치하려는 탄도미사일 능력을 추정하는 데에는 여전히 많은 의문과 한계가 존재한다. 본 연구에서는 발사된 미사일의 성능을 파악하기 위해 탄도미사일의 초기속력과 최대사거리를 추정하는 간단한 계산 방법을 제안한다. 이 방법에 따르면 시험발사하는 탄도미사일의 정점고도와 비행거리 데이터만을 사용해도 추진제 연소종료 시 형성되는 최대속력 및 발사 경사각과 최대사거리를 개략적으로 추정할 수 있다. 이 방법으로 개발 중인 북한 미사일 성능분석을 하기 위해 1993년부터 2022년까지 발사한 탄도미사일에 대해 관측된
