[학술논문] 退翁性徹의 頓悟頓修的 見性과 究竟覺에 대한 考察
...‘언어의 그림이론’과 ‘깨달음을 통해서 얻은 인식이 언어를 초월한다는 이론’의 양단간의 균형을 추구했다는 의미로 받아들일 수 있다. 그러면서도 그는 초지일관 대중들이 언어의 한계에 구속되지 않기를 간절히 바랬다. 비록 성철이 주장하는 체험이 ‘원인이 없는 非認知的 순수한 의식의 국면 체험(Uncaused & NonCognitive Experience of Pure Consciousness)’이기에 그것을 제대로 이해한다는 것이 어쩌면 영원히 불가능한 일일 수도 있으나, 단순한 “돈오와 체험의 수사법(Rhetorics of Immediacy and Experience)”일 뿐이라고 말할 수는 없을 것이다.
