[학술논문] Change and Continuity in the South Korean Military: An Application of the Postmodern Military Model
냉전 종식 이후 위협 인식의 규모와 강도가 감소함에 따라 여러 서방 국가의 군대는 주요 임무 정의, 병력 구조, 그리고 주력 전문 인력의 변화를 모색해 왔다. 이러한 추세를 검토한 후, 본 연구는 한국에서도 유사한 현상이 나타나고 있는지에 대한 질문을 제기한다. 포스트모던 군사 이론과는 달리, 본 논문은 국제 체제의 변화만으로 국가의 위협 정의와 국민의 위협 인식이 자동적으로 변화하는 것은 아니라고 주장한다. 더욱 중요한 것은, 국가 안보에 있어 군과 국민이 어떤 위협 요인을 진정으로 중요하게 인식하는지를 파악하는 것이 중요하다는 점이다. 본질적으로, 본 연구는 현재 국가 안보에 대한 외부 위협이 높은 한국에서 군이 포스트모던 군사로 전환하지는 않을 것이라고 주장한다. 이러한 주장을 바탕으로, 본 연구는 냉전
