[학위논문] 후견국의 동맹 관리 딜레마 - 중국이 북한의 핵무기 개발을 저지하지 못한 원인에 대한 연구 -

본 논문은 후견국으로서 중국의 대북한 동맹 관리를 분석하였고, 중국이 북한 비핵화의 목표를 달성하지 못한 원인을 중국의 낮은 협상력에서 찾았다. 동맹과 핵확산의 이론적 논의를 바탕으로 북중동맹의 사례를 비교 분석함으로써 가설을 검증하는 이론기반 사례연구 방법을 통해 이를 고찰하였다. 동맹 관리와 핵비확산 간의 관계를 다룬 이론에서 얻은 통찰력으로 본 논문은 북한의 대중국 군사적 의존도를 하나의 변수로 놓고, 중국의 대북한 이익 공약의 강도를 또 다른 하나의 변수로 간주하여 그 변수들간 결합이 중국의 대북한 협상력을 결정한다는 분석 틀을 제시하였다. 동맹 관리의 결과는 동맹국 간 상대적 협상력에 따라 결정한다. 이러한 틀 속에서 중국이 북한의 핵무기 개발을 저지하지 못한 원인을 설명하고자 했다.
